Financial Advisor and Partner at Edward Jones · Upper Arlington, Ohio
This is my personal website: a place for writing, community notes, family interests, books, and experiments with AI-assisted building.
This site is intentionally personal. It includes factual professional background, but most of what I write about here is community, technology, family, books, and projects I'm building to understand where AI is headed.
I'm Joe Lotozo, a CFP® professional, lifelong resident of Upper Arlington, Ohio, a proud Ohio State Buckeye, and a Financial Advisor and Partner at Edward Jones. I grew up here, went to Upper Arlington High School, and have chosen to build my career and raise my family in the same community I've always called home.
My professional life is one part of who I am, but this site is broader than that. It is where I collect writing about artificial intelligence, community projects, books, family life, and the tools I'm experimenting with as technology changes.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University and my Master of Science in Personal Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning. I am currently pursuing my MBA at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business through their Working Professionals program. Over the years I've added five professional designations because I believe learning should stay active, not stop once a career is underway.
Outside the office, I'm a husband and a dad to our three daughters. You'll find me keeping bees, tending the garden, staying active with rugby, experimenting with AI tools, or exploring somewhere new with my family. My mother, Lorelei M. Lanier, is an estate planning attorney in Columbus with over 44 years of experience.
These are factual professional credentials and education milestones. They are included here because they are part of my public background and because I worked hard to earn them.
Upper Arlington is more than where I work. It's home. Giving back to this community is something I take seriously, and I'm proud to serve alongside so many dedicated people.
Here's what keeps me going outside of work.
A few books on my nightstand right now.
A day at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium with my family — one of our favorite ways to spend a Saturday.
A few moments from around Upper Arlington. Hosting neighbors for our annual Thanksgiving open house is one of my favorite traditions.
I'm fortunate to work alongside two talented people who share a genuine commitment to our Upper Arlington community.
Joe's curiosity about technology and the future extends beyond the office. In 2023, he co-authored a book with ChatGPT-4, not as a stunt, but as a genuine experiment to explore what AI could and couldn't do when GPT-4 first launched.
AI Unmasked: Demystifying the Myth of Sentient Machines
Joseph A. Lotozo & ChatGPT-4 · Independently Published, March 2023 · 140 pages
The idea for this book was born out of heated debates with Joe's father-in-law about the future of artificial intelligence, specifically whether AI could ever become truly sentient, self-aware, or conscious. Rather than just argue the point, Joe decided to put it to the test. When GPT-4 launched, he used it as a co-author to write a book exploring those very questions.
The result is a wide-ranging exploration of AI's history, its current capabilities and limitations, the nature of consciousness, and the ongoing ethical debate around artificial general intelligence (AGI). It's an accessible, honest look at what AI can and cannot do, written with AI itself.

A cancer clinical trial search prototype inspired by my Aunt Jane, a nurse who wanted patients and caregivers to have a simpler way to find active trials near them. It uses ClinicalTrials.gov data, Firebase, and a patient-friendly intake flow.
This is a personal AI experiment and search prototype. It is not medical advice, not a medical device, and has no affiliation with Joe's professional practice, Edward Jones, or any financial advisory services.
